Question: How are you closing out this bizarrely awful year?

Answer: With the best music Seattle has to offer at one of the best venues in the city, that’s how.

On December 31, the best New Year’s Eve party in town is happening at Neumos with local artists J GRGRY, Porter Ray, and Thunderpussy.

J GRGRY is the combination effort of Joe Gregory, Robert Cheek, Andrew King, and Ryan Leyva. With just a three song teaser EP released earlier this year, J GRGRY’s dark pop/indie/rock-inspired songs demonstrate confident lyricism that traverse love, heartbreak, addiction, and triumph, aided by top notch production. After years of disappointment at the hands of the music industry and personal challenges, Joe Gregory has found his place back in the city where he started with bandmates who share his vision. Keep an eye out for Gold Teeth + Glass Eyes, their new EP due early 2017.

Joe kindly answered some questions about their upcoming album and his own journey through the music industry.

Opening the show is Central District rapper and Sub Pop artist Porter Ray. His most recent album, Electric Rain, released this summer, is a complete piece of art from start to finish. Porter’s tracks are soulful, vulnerable, and nostalgic, and his delivery is flawless. I haven’t heard much of his music before, so I can’t pretend to be informed about his growth as an artist, but after listening to several tracks from his previous releases and his awesome collaborations with other local artists like Tele Fresco and JusMoni, Porter’s going to start the night off blowing the audience away. If his recent release isn’t enough for you, just last week he announced his next album is already done. Be sure to keep an eye on this artist, as Porter Ray is bound to be the next big thing.

Thunderpussy, made up of Molly Sides, Whitney Petty, Ruby Dunphy, and Leah Julius, is reviving that classic 1970s rock sound with shredding guitar, killer vocals, and incomparable live performances. They’ve been voted Seattle’s best performance by multiple music reporting sites for the past two years while only releasing a demo EP with 4 songs. Fortunately, Thunderpussy has been teasing their upcoming LP for months now, including a recent slough of photos and videos with rock legend, and recently announced inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Mike McCready. If that doesn’t say pure rock ‘n’ roll, I don’t know what does.

This show is officially sold out! However, if you’ve already purchased your ticket and you’re 21 and over, ring in the new year chambong style on December 31st with Thunderpussy, J GRGRY and Porter Ray at Neumos. Doors at 8:00 p.m.
