It’s been an experience. It has been a special, first-time peek into the life of Boise, ID. It’s been hot and cold and rainy and sunny, and it’s been difficult dressing for the weather. I’m bummed to present to you the final daily preview for Treefort Music Fest 2017, but unfortunately, it’s my duty as a reporter. Here are some of the bands I’m hoping to see today, as well as Angel Olsen and STRFKR, who I have already raved a little too much about.
Sea’s Apprentice
Self-described as “the sound of the surf coming in and stopping for split-split-split time mists, and then returns,” Sea’s Apprentice is a local Boise band that’s sure to bring the Built to Spill comparisons, as well as heavy, wavy guitar. They play at the Linen Building at 3:00 p.m.
Kate Tempest
Kate Tempest is a super new and unique find for me after browsing through Treefort’s lineup. She’s a poet and musician, blending the line between the two art forms for a special, intricate, and thoughtful communication with her audience. She’s currently for her new album, Let Them Eat Chaos, which deals with tough issues that she handles gracefully and honestly. See Kate Tempest perform at the Main Stage at 5:30 p.m.
Lower Dens
Traveling all the way from Baltimore is one of my favorite bands, Lower Dens. I saw them previously when they opened for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, so they have a similar groovy sound, but I’d call them much more fine-tuned and simple. Kate Hunter’s vocals are super inspiring to me, and her arresting presence on stage is sure to make this set the one to watch. Lower Dens plays at 7:00 p.m. on the Main Stage.
Clarke and the Himselfs
This should be an incredibly unique and noteworthy show at the Boise All-Ages Movement. At 7:30 p.m., Clarke, a Boise local who’s opened for Built to Spill on tour, will bring her fuzzy gutter-punk, neo-psych, and other than that, unplaceable sound to Treefort Music Fest this Sunday. “My current mission in life,” she said, “the biggest way I can stand for something, the best protest I have is to be true to what I believe in and be a transgender woman playing music for people in a band called Clarke and the Himselfs.”
