Hailing From Denver, Neumos Welcomes The Motet

I can feel the rhythm now; it’s crawling through my veins in preparation for The Motet’s performance at Neumos on Friday, April 21st. The rhythm is slowly making its way up my body, inching closer and closer to my brain with every horn pop, bass groove, and organ slide I listen to as I ready myself to witness this funk group play live.

The Motet has been around for a while, planting this funky virus into people’s blood stream since their 1998 beginning in Denver, Colorado. Inspiration from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, and Earth, Wind & Fire can easily be heard. Their most recent studio album, Totem, was released in the summer of 2016, and contains all of the elements of a successful Motet performance. However, I prefer to listen to their Live at the Red Rocks album because the energy these performers exude while playing live simply cannot be captured in a studio. This is why I’m excited for Friday: I’ll get to experience this energy firsthand.

Playing with The Motet is opener McTuff: a solid representative of the northwest jazz/funk scene.

The show starts at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, April 21st at Neumos. Come find me and we’ll dance our behinds off. Tickets can be purchased here.
