I’m sure you’ve heard of Brockhampton by now and if not, what are you doing??? They are undoubtedly the most important hip-hop collective of 2018. Fronted by Kevin Abstract, the Texas-based “best boy band since One Direction” dropped three incredible albums last year demonstrating diverse lyrical flows over lush production, rapping about everything from mental illness and personal vices to being gay in hip-hop. But you already know this right?

To prepare you for their back to back shows at the Showbox this week here are five of their hardest bars throughout last year’s Saturation trilogy.

Matt Champion “GOLD”:

“I got bipolar confidence,

wake up like ‘s**t’ then I feel like the s**t,

So I guess I’m the s**t.”

Meryln Wood on “QUEER”:

“First off f**k Dolce & Gabbana,

Racist mothersuckers tryna be my father,

Put that on me auntie and me mama,

Grab the Ghost then I go right back to Ghana.”

Ameer Vann on “BLEACH”:

“I found false hope in all kinda places

Hotel rooms and temporary feelings

I put my clothes on and try to check out

I try to hide from the sun, let it set now

Don’t let God see me, I got a lot of demons

And I been sleeping with ’em

And now I’m tangled in the sheets and sinking deeper with ’em

I’m going deeper in it, find me drownin’ in it”

Ameer Vann on “TEETH”:

“I done been in trouble, ’bout as long as I remember

My momma tried to help me, but I hardly ever listened

So she sent me to them white schools, I learned that I was different

They told me I’m a n***a, well now I know I am

I got my finger on the trigger, I’m a project baby

A free lunch felon, and I’m hungry every minute

Empty stomach, weed smoke can’t fill it

If you don’t listen to me, I set fire to the building”

Kevin Abstract on “JUNKY”:

“Why you always rap about bein’ gay?’

‘Cause not enough n****s rap and be gay.”

Lastly, read about how BROCKHAMPTON illustrates existentialism in our generation.
