Orlando-based duo Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih of SALES are ending their 2016 Fall U.S. tour in the opposite corner of the country from where they started this Sunday, November 20th at The Crocodile. Morgan and Shih embrace the DIY lifestyle, self-releasing their new 15-song album SALES LP in April of this year, after recording all tracks in their bedrooms.

To me, it seems like a lot of new music being released lately is overproduced, disingenuous, and generic, making it difficult to separate one artist from another. One thing I love about SALES is their stripped down, lo-fi sound of, primarily, just a guitar and some drums. Morgan’s voice floats over the minimalist production style, allowing the catchy melodies and airy dictation of lyrics to sit in the forefront. Close your eyes, and it feels like you’re sitting in the room with Morgan and Shih while they record. Better yet, head to the concert on Sunday and this feeling will be a reality.

It’s a homecoming show for Saturday night’s opener Tangerine. Seattleite sisters Marika & Miro Justad and guitarist Toby Kuhn released their new EP, Sugar Teeth, earlier this year, and it’s full of surfin’ rock n’ roll, new wave influences, and a tinge of R&B. The trio reminds me of driving on the viaduct with the windows down in the middle of summer, watching the ferries roll in. As the nights get longer, you’ll want to put this EP on to remember that the 4:30 p.m. sunsets wont last forever. Check out KXSU’s interview with Tangerine from this springs Sasquatch Festival here.
