Some musicians can’t resist the spotlight. Some consider success to be walking into a room or down a street and everyone screams. Having your face in People magazine and nobody but a “nobody” would mistake your face for another’s. Yet some thrive without mass attention. Minding their own and making sounds that they like because they like to.

Jason Quever has always been like this. A California native, his career took off in 2002 when he worked on an album for Cass McCombs. Shortly after, his collaborations expanded and two years later, he released his first album with his band, named Papercuts.

Now, 14 years after that initial album release, Papercuts has released Parallel Universe Blues this past October. Papercuts has always had a dream-pop sound but been experimental and pushed its own bounds to see what it can accomplish. Parallel Universe Blues is self-described as being shoegaze-inspired. Although Papercuts has never been the “it” band in its years, they have always been an important and influential voice among their contemporaries and have a reliable, loyal fanbase.

Opening for Papercuts are bands Sugar Candy Mountain and Tomten.

The Sunset Tavern will surely be full to the brim this Wednesday, November 28, when Papercuts visits Seattle. It’s not a show to miss! Tickets can be found here. This event is ages 21+.
