Capitol Hill Block Party Preview Day 3

It’s the final day of Capitol Hill Block party! This lineup makes the pure exhaustion worth it. Seven hours of music are packed into this afternoon—eat your Wheaties, kids!

Diplo @ Main Stage, 9:45—11:00 PM

Diplo is a Top-40 smasher with over 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify and his music has been played billions of times worldwide. The man behind the music is Thomas Wesley Pentz, but you’d know him better as Diplo, or perhaps the lead of Major Lazer, or even half Jack Ü (the other half being Skrillex). This main stage banger will close out Capitol Hill Block Party so if you are someone that likes to “rave” or is hoping for Justin Bieber to show up as a surprise guest (where are ü now?) make sure to save your energy for this one.

Diet Cig @ Vera Stage, 5:00—5:30 PM

Sprouting from a chance interaction between guitarist and vocalist Alex Luciano asking drummer Noah Bowman to borrow a lighter, Diet Cig bring endless energy to everything they touch. The duo released their debut record Swear I’m Good At This in April; packed to the brim with day to day ponderings, annoyances, and triumph, it has the same feel and energy as their 2015 EP Overeasy. Catch Diet Cig if you want to dance in the sun to some simple, energetic tunes.

Danny Brown @ Main Stage, 5:15—6:00 PM

Detroit rapper Danny Brown has been making music since 2003 and is now supporting his latest record Atrocity Exhibition. This album is true to Brown’s vision, a solo project, with contributions from Kendrick Lamar and Earl Sweatshirt sprinkled throughout the record. Returning to a rawer style as seen on XXX, Danny Brown is sure to bring the house down with his crushingly honest and artistic lyrics.

Julie Byrne @ Main Stage, 2:30—3:15 PM

If you need a breath of fresh air (or a pleasant nap), head to Julie Byrne’s set. This singer/songwriter and guitar player out of Buffalo, New York, plays intricate guitar in harmony with her smooth yet insistent voice to create a result that evokes the feeling of picnicking under a tree on a sunny day with a light breeze. If you need to take moment to relax or decompress, Byrne’s set is the place for you.

TORRES @ Vera Stage, 6:10—6:40 PM

TORRES, the musical pseudonym for Mackenzie Scott, uniquely captures being within and without as she moves through identity on her raw and emotionally brutal record Sprinter. Scott uses her large voice and bed of emotions lying just below the surface to create a dark and mysterious world of her own. TORRES is a worthwhile stop on your Capitol Hill Block Party journey not just for her intensity but for her lyrical prowess and ability to put on a live show. TORRES announced this week that her sophomore album, Three Futures, will be released this September, so expect some new music thrown in to the set. Angst is welcome.
