Previewing John Craigie with Beth Wood at The Triple Door

On Tuesday December 5th, John Craigie will be performing with Beth Wood at The Triple Door in Seattle. The Triple Door is a spacious, self-contained lounge that seats 150. The lounge takes its name from The Triple Door’s dedication to music and the brilliant visual focus of the room, a stunning 1900-gallon freshwater aquarium just inside the entrance. If people watching doesn’t appeal, the fish watching is pretty fascinating. There is a comfortable mix of tables and booths, and even a bar inside.

John Craigie is an American singer-songwriter. If John Prine and Mitch Hedberg had a baby, the resulting product would resemble something very close to John Craigie. Musically comparable to Prine, with the humor and wit of Hedberg, the humble, gracious, and hilarious Craigie is one of the best storytellers of our time. It’s no wonder that Chuck Norris sends him fan mail and Todd Snider brings him gifts on stage.

Craigie was born and raised in Los Angeles and moved for college where he attended UC Santa Cruz. He graduated with a degree in mathematics and began playing music in the local area. In his early days he sang vocals and played lead guitar for the Santa Cruz band Pond Rock, playing for popular bohemian crowd venues and house parties. They sang 1960s and 1970s covers as well as their own originals.

Craigie is best known for his storytelling, sense of humor, and poignant songwriting. He has released five studio albums, one live album, and two cover albums. His most recent release, No Rain, No Rose, came out in January, 2017.

Impose Magazine says “Craigie’s latest, “I Am California,” is haunting, poetic, and just how a longing for California should sound. Draped in nostalgia and covered in memories, Craigie paints a beautiful homage to the Golden State, with the assistance of singer Gregory Alan Isakov.” You can hear the beauty of “I Am California” below.

Opening for John Craigie is musician Beth Wood. Beth Wood is a modern-day troubadour and a believer in the power of song. Her exceptional musicianship, crafty songwriting, and commanding stage presence have been winning over American audiences for twenty years. Beth’s music is soulful, organic, intelligent, barefoot, and a high-energy communication of joy. Check her out on Spotify here.
