If you’re not already familiar with Sub Pop goddesses THESatisfaction, I strongly suggest you take a listen. THEESatisfaction is a Seattle hip-hop/RnB duo made up of singer Catherine “Cat” Harris-White and rapper Stasia “Stas” Irons. The two met in 2008 at the University of Washington and were signed to Sub Pop in 2011 after being featured on Shabazz Palaces’ album Black Up. They released their first full-length album, awE NaturalE, in 2012.
Their sophomore album, EarthEE, drops this Tuesday and will be followed up with a release show on Thursday, February 26th at 8PM at Neumos (21+). We can expect from both the release show and the album more of THESatisfaction’s uniquely cool sound. I think their music was wonderfully described by NPR as a “blending (of) electronica, R&B, neo-soul, avant-garde hip-hop, and an expansive Afro-futuristic philosophy”. Holy shit what a lot of descriptive words!
THEESatisfaction puts out a lot of different vibes and touches on a multitude of platforms but always does so with intelligence and style keeping their music authentic and approachable. Their performance on Thursday will probably also have some experimental touches but something I really love about THEESatisfaction is that they are still able to keep their music and shows fun and danceable even while being unconventional which not all futuristic bands fail to do. I am sure THEESatisfaction will not disappoint, picking up either tickets to their show this week or their new album might the best decision you could ever make ever.
