Psychedelic synthesizers, mind-expanding melodies, and catchy danceable rhythms: these are really the only three things I’m hoping Temples will bring to The Crocodile on this Tuesday, October 18. The psych-rock four-piece out of Kettering, England formed in 2012, released an incredible album in 2014 called Sun Structures, and just put out a new single called “Certainty” in September. Temples are a pretty clear derivative of their English psych-rock predecessors such as Cream and the Yardbirds. This influence is pretty evident in tracks such as “Shelter Song,” where the bright guitar riffs and call-and-response vocals are reminiscent of Eric Clapton and George Harrison.
I’m expecting their concert to be, for a lack of a better word (good thing I’m a writer), hype. What makes Temples unique in modern psych-rock is their coherence. They’re not a group that loses their notes in the fuzz of their amplifiers, and this transparency reveals the raw talent in what they write.
