Previewing Thee Oh Sees at Neumos on September 23rd

My first, and so far only time seeing Thee Oh Sees was at last year’s Sasquatch Festival, and It was no secret that I was a little salty going into the festival on day one. That being said, I 100% credit the performance by Thee Oh Sees as the moment that forced me to stop whining and start jamming for the remainder the festival weekend. We’ll have to see what the band brings to Neumos on the 23rd, but during their Squatch set, the band had two drummers onstage, who notably played the same beats if only to increase the volume and honestly, to show off a little. The energy Thee Oh Sees and their two drummers created was contagious, and a mosh quickly formed out in the heat of the Gorge Amphitheatre, knocking some sense into my moody disposition.

Thee Oh Sees latest record, Orc (released last month), renders no huge surprises in terms of their existing discography, but offers a slightly more in-tune take on their classic sound. Regardless of which albums Thee Oh Sees play at their Neumos show, we are in for some good ol’ fashioned moshing.

Opening for Thee Oh Sees is local noise-pop/punk band Dreamdecay, as well as Olympia’s experimental project Arrington de Dionyso. Dreamdecay is signed to one of my favorite local labels, Iron Lung, and their vibe is sure to pair nicely with what Thee Oh Sees bring. Arlington de Dionyso, on the other hand, is new to me and based on their Bandcamp discography, might be a little harder to predict in a live setting, but more of an eerie vibe shall be set.

To prepare you further for the upcoming show, check out a sweet music vid for “Toe Cutter – Thumb Blaster” as well as an interview with Thee Oh Sees from music’s best journalist, Nardwuar.

This show is sold out, but you can watch for tickets here.
