This Sunday looks like it will be chilly and rainy, but I have a solution to fight the urge to stay inside and watch Netflix all day: head over The Triple Door to see Joe Purdy and Amber Rubarth perform live! The Triple Door is a spacious, self-contained lounge that seats 150. It’s dedicated to music and visuals and is personally my favorite venue in Seattle (that I’ve been to thus far). They were voted the “Best Bar in Seattle” by Seattle Metropolitan in 2007 and have won many awards for their impressive wine menu.

Amber Rubarth, an acoustic singer-songwriter, has been described as “Part of the new old-soul generation” by The Huffington Post, and the Acoustic Guitar Magazine says she “has a playful simplicity and insightfulness to her musings that has connected with people around the world.” Rubarth has toured extensively around the world, sharing the stage with people like Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles, to name a few. She made her acting debut starring as Joni (alongside Joe Purdy as Elliot) in the upcoming feature film American Folk directed by David Heinz. The film is set to be released January 26, 2018 through Good Deed Entertainment. Rubarth is an all-around versatile and beautiful woman and will no doubt woo her audience when she comes to Seattle this Sunday.

Joe Purdy is a singer/songwriter from Arkansas who put in his time working at a loading dock and as a counselor at a private high school before his song “Wash Away” became synonymous with the 2004 season of ABC’s Lost.

Purdy left Arkansas for California in 2001, where he learned how to play the piano and began writing songs. He went on to record several homemade albums, breaking into the L.A. music scene with 2003’s StompinGrounds. It was around this time that Purdy was contacted by J.J. Abrams, the executive producer of Lost, who asked Purdy to write a song for the show. Purdy, who at the time was visiting an island on a river in upstate New York, wrote “Wash Away” which went on to hit the country chart. The album that featured the song, Julie Blue, was released in 2004. His album Only Four Seasons followed it up two years later.

Purdy has worked alongside Amber Rubarth these last few years filming the movie American Folk. With a refreshing gentleness and beauty, American Folk lovingly chronicles the spaces between the suffering and fear, where music has the power to connect. Musicians Joe Purdy and Amber Rubarth give nuanced and thoughtful performances, with voices that are uplifting and achingly gorgeous. Filmed over 3,500 miles in 14 states, American Folk serves as a love letter to the natural beauty of America, to the style of music that has shepherded us through historically tough times and to the kindness of all of the “folk” that make America what it is.
