Jessika Kenney: Anchor Zero

On Friday, January 9th at 7:30 p.m., the Frye Art Museum will host the opening reception for its newest exhibit Jessika Kenney: Anchor Zero. Anchor Zero is described by the Frye as “an ephemeral site-specific video installation that will fill the galleries with voice and video projections”. Jessika Kenney is a local Washington artist who performs music and vocals inspired by South East Asian and Persian vocal traditions. Her music has a very meditative and haunting quality that takes advantage of the acoustic space where ever she is performing. I expect Kenney’s installation to incorporate her signature Asian sound but I have no idea what type of imagery she will be incorporating. It’s also unclear if the video installation will focus on her performance or other visuals paired with her music.

All of these unknowns aside, I am sure whatever Kenney has put together will be impressive. Kenney received the Artist Trust James W Ray Distinguished Artist Award for a Washington State artist whose work demonstrates exceptional originality in 2014 and she has also a recipient of the 2013 Stranger Genius Award in Music. Her Asian inspired sound should also pair nicely with the exhibits already up especially Chinese artist Pan Gongkai.

If you are interested in being one of the first to check out Anchor Zero, RSVP for the opening reception at here.
