Bishop Briggs, is an L.A-based alternative pop/rock artist whose multi-cultural life experiences have helped liberate her musical creativity. It’s almost impossible to categorize her music into a singular genre, as she blends MØ-like electro-pop, pop rock, and even folk into a totally unique sound that’s all her own. Having made a big splash with her breakout single, “River,” and a rework of her former release, “Wild Horses,” Bishop Briggs is indisputably one of the best new artists of 2016.

MY: Hi, Bishop Briggs! Thanks so much for doing the interview with us!

BB: Thank you for chatting with me!

MY: It’s incredible that you’ve already reached over 10,000 followers on SoundCloud with just with five tracks on it. How did you make that happen?

BB: Thank you. Truthfully, I have no idea! But all I can say is that I’m thankful and appreciative of the support.

MY: How did you start your music project?

BB: It all began about a year ago. Through a crazy series of events, I got introduced to Mark Jackson and Ian Brendon Scott who are the producers behind my music. In our first session together, we wrote “River” and decided to keep going!

MY: I read in the news that you are opening for Coldplay! That’s so cool! How’s your tour with Coldplay? What’s it like to work with such a big name?

BB: I’m currently still on it as I talk with you! It has been so surreal. It is a huge honor to even be offered this opportunity and we are all just trying to take in every second that we can.

MY: With Bumbershoot happening right now, what are you most excited about?

BB: I have been counting down the days till Bumbershoot!! I have heard such great things about this festival and it will be my first time visiting Seattle.

MY: What are some of your favorite music festivals?

BB: I’m pretty sure once I go to Bumbershoot, it’s going to be at the top of my list!

MY: I know that you have experience living in many different countries. You were born in England, then moved to Japan, and also lived in Hong Kong for eight years. Now you are in the United States. Would you like to share how these experiences influence you and your music?

BB: For me, it’s all I’ve ever known and all I can say is that I feel grateful to have grown up in these places that have so much life to them. My experiences growing up there were truly defined by the people I met.

MY: If you didn’t choose to make music, what do you think you would do in your career?

BB: This is all I’ve ever wanted to do and there has never been a plan B for me!
