South London trio Beaty Heart comes to Seattle on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 with their electro-pop and neo-psych-infused sounds that can be found on their sophomore album, Till the Tomb.
Beaty Heart is made up of three multi-talented artists: Josh Mitchell (vocals, guitars, electronics), James Moruzzi (vocals, drums, electronics), and Charlie Rotberg (drums, electronics). Each one comes to the group with a different sense and background of creativity. The three piled their separate expertise together to fuse many tones of different alternative genres, which eventually led to the release of their debut album, Mixed Blessings, in the spring of 2014.
Comparatively, Till the Tomb shows more growth and eclecticism that the band has developed over the two years since their first release. While “Soft Like Clay” rings with upliftingly easy-going synths and undeviating claps in the background, “Flora,” the first single on the LP, is carried by low hums and a laid-back, yet stimulating, beat; a contrast that shows to be quite prominent through the entire album. Through it all, though, let’s not forget their charmingly familiar vocals that drive each song from beginning to end.
The band carries a chilled-out vibe and overall weirdness, similar to that of Glass Animals with a hint of HOLYCHILD. They will be performing the UK’s Bestival 2016 music festival, sharing the bill with names such as Animal Collective, Fickle Friends, Oh Wonder, and aforementioned Glass Animals, amongst a huge, huge list of others.
Before the headlining trio is alt-indie band from the UK, Beach Baby. Their single “Ladybird,” released last year, caught the attention of listeners as it shared the story of a twisted relationship through soft-spoken melodies and interestingly complicated lyrics. Consisting of shoegaze undertones and post-punk driven basslines, the four-piece celebrates their debut album, No Mind No Money, released just this month.
Seattle’s own Tom Eddy is slated to open the show with an upbeat rhythmic DJ set. Known for his vocals in electro-pop trio Beat Connection and soul-funk group The Dip, Eddy has become a staple here in this city’s music scene, and will no doubt get the crowd hyped for the rest of the night.
