We at KXSU are finishing off our in-studio sets this year with a local favorite: the rock-and-roll trio Naked Giants, with SU’s own Young Mothers opening the show! Naked Giants have an enticing garage rock sound, carefully peppered with tastes of punk and blues rock that really make them stand out. If you’ve ever enjoyed groups like The Kills, The Black Angels, or even any Jack White project, Naked Giants may be a band for you. They currently have one released EP called R.I.P., available in its entirety here. You’ll find their music to be straightforward with few frills, but with room for the quirk we come to expect from local groups, like on the track “Twist.”Don’t let that “local” designation fool you, however; Naked Giants made it to SXSW and other big festivals this year, where I’m sure they rocked their confident, in-your-face sound. Also among their achievements, the group just finished a tour alongside Car Seat Headrest (a big deal!), so we are super psyched to welcome these semi-celebs to our studio.

“Pyramids” is definitely my favorite track of theirs. It’s a rocker, and with some punky bass adding an angsty undercurrent to the characteristically fuzzy guitar. These echoey guitars and vocalist Grant Mullen’s garage-y sounding lyrics feel like psych rock to me as well, which turn track into a solid favorite of mine. “Pyramids” embodies having a good time, and this type of wild energy is what Naked Giants accomplish best in their music, making them a real party to listen to.

Summed up, this band is unapologetically loud, and they should show us a great time in our studio.Young Mothers… I could not find music for, but I trust Jordan and Grif to bring us something nice, per their self-described “sad laptop + sad guitar” sound. The two bands should give us an exciting night, and we look forward to both performances. Prepare for a high-energy night to cap off the academic quarter!

Join us on Friday, December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. to see Naked Giants and Young Mothers live in-studio, and for free! Visit the official Facebook event page here.
