As KXSU’s resident emo, I am here to give you the scoop on—you guessed it—another emo show. However, this isn’t just any emo show; these bands are some top-tier emo revival leaders, and I have been stoked for this show since the moment it was announced. On February 15th, You Blew It!, Free Throw, and All Get Out will be playing the beloved Vera Project.

Orlando-based band You Blew It! has been making its way through the pop-punk and emo revival scene for a solid eight years. Since then, they have released three full-length albumsthe most recent being Albendrot released in November 2016. You Blew It! has shown impressive development throughout their career, and Albendrot is a beautiful reflection of the band’s newly matured sound. In a Spotify playlist called “Songs That Inspired Albendrot,” the band references Death Cab for Cutie, Pedro the Lion, and Bright Eyes as influences. Although their songs often include serious emotions, such as heartbreak and pain, the band maintains a fun-loving attitude with statements such as, “Two big middle fingers to punk-rock, we’re just going on vacation 24/7.”

Joining them is another favorite band of mine with a very similar sound. With the same easygoing attitude, Free Throw, from Nashville, Tennessee, defines themselves as “five dudes in a van trying to play shows, drink beers, and make friends.” The band made a popular debut in 2012 with the album, Those Days Are Gone, but have left fans anxiously awaiting a follow up album. Thankfully, the band recently announced that they are now signed to Triple Crown Records with a finished album to come out in 2017. Honestly, I got so excited watching the announcement video that I teared up a little. I’m embarrassing.

All Get Out from South Carolina is new to me, but I’m excited to see what they have to offer live. Their sound is more of an indie-rock vibe, but still has clear pop-punk influence.

You Blew It! and Free Throw will be playing The Vera Project on February 15th. The event is all ages and doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available here.
