Although the first couple of days of Treefort Music Fest are pretty toned down because they’re being held on weekdays, there’s still a lot of great music to see, contrary to what my naive self thought last year. If you’re unsure of what to check out on Wednesday and Thursday, this guide will give you some suggestions.
Wednesday
Happyness
Happyness is a three-man band that hails all the way from London, England. They started out together in 2013, and have been making music ever since. Their music is something you’d imagine in an indie movie during a montage of people driving around a cute town and falling in love at Canon Beach, OR. If this sounds like your thing, check ‘em out at the Boise All Ages Movement Project from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Regular Sounds
Originating here in Boise, Idaho, Regular Sounds is a five-piece band. Their music is a symphony of sounds; they describe themselves as “poppy-chaotic-sloppy-melodic,” which is very fitting. When first listening to one of their songs, I was reminded of the days I used to listen to Radical Face’s “Welcome Home” and sit around thinking about the afterlife. They’re playing at the Boise All Ages Movement Project from 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.
Blvrred Vision
Another Boise native group appearing is Blvrred Vision. They are a duo of producers that create danceable electronic beats. Their music has a trance vibe to it, but it’s not wild or overly party-ish. If you’re looking for something calm but fun to dance to, Blvrred Vision is a great option. They are playing from 8:00 p.m. to 8:40 p.m at El Korah Shrine.
Psycache
Someone I’m very excited to see is Psycache, an EDM producer. I will personally be dancing to this Boise-based music-maker all of Wednesday night until Treefort ends for the day. After listening to one song, I think Treefort sums his set up with the statement, “Psycache is where the dancing will be. Bring your booty and be prepared to shake it.” He’ll be playing in the Linen Building from 12:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Thursday
Perfect Stranger
Perfect Stranger is a producer of psychedelic dance music from Kensington, California. He’s well known for creating groundbreaking content at music festivals around the world. Due to his ability to dapple with various different genres, he’s bound to keep the crowd engaged and on their feet all night long. You can catch Perfect Stranger at Mardi Gras from 11:15 p.m. to 1:15 a.m.
Adlib
Originally from Idaho, Seattleite Adlib will be returning to his home state to play at Treefort. He’s a DJ/Producer who used to play a large role in the electronic dance music community in Boise. With thought-provoking samples at the beginning of his set, followed by amazing beats, he’s bound to get everyone on the dance floor moving. If you’re feeling the need to let loose, check out Adlib in Mardi Gras from 8:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Bijouxx
Formerly known as Grandma Kelsey, Bijouxx is a one-woman show. Playing the guitar and singing soul-touching sounds with her earthy voice, she’s bound to get everyone into a reflective and calm state amongst the wildness of Treefort. You can catch Bijouxx at the Boise Contemporary Theater from 6:35 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.
Skinny the Kid
In 2014, Skinny the Kid, a four-person band, formed in Moscow, Idaho. While first listening to their music, you might feel as if you are listening to a toned down version of the Arctic Monkeys when they were young. Skinny the Kid will definitely have people swaying around and bopping their head. They’ll be playing at the Boise All Ages Movement Project from 5:00 p.m. to 5:40 p.m.
