Seattle University’s annual music festival, Quadstock, is back for its 28th anniversary (billed as QSTOCK28 this year), and our friends over at SEAC (Student Events and Activities Council) have once again upped the game with the talent they’ve drawn to our little Capitol Hill home. Call us obsessive, call us hooked; we’re all eenie-meenie-miney-mo-lovers over this year’s lineup. As usual, our editorial team covered the lineup from top to bottom, highlighting every artist that’s appearing at Seattle University this upcoming May 20th, 2017.

KXSU STAGE

Emma Lee Toyoda

Emma Lee Toyoda is such a nice name for such a nice person! We were lucky enough to have her in the KXSU studio this past Friday, May 5th, and we’re already looking forward to seeing her again at KXSU’s Quadstock stage this year. She’s a Seattle native and a self-titled “semi-nocturnal,” which really speaks to me (as well as her label as “sad girl rock.”) I’m in. -Adrienne

The first time I saw this band perform was at the 2015 Sound Off! semifinals, where they blew me away with their beautiful, soft, folky tunes. Since then, I’ve had the chance to keep up with them, as their sound evolved and grew over time, changing from folk to something a little more experimental—a much fuller, more mature sound. Their newest album, Sewn Me Anew, is raw, emotional, and pretty damn badass, and I can’t wait to see them play it live. Not to mention, Emma of Emma Lee Toyoda is one of the coolest people I know, and that’s an understatement. She can play upwards of six instruments (although she claims to only know how to play 4), and she and her band self-manage, promote, and tour all on their own. Very impressive, if you ask me! –April

Honcho Poncho

Honcho Poncho is a Seattle favorite of mine. This group of guys are truly talented, and are a fresh sound to the lineup. I will definitely be attending their set, and highly suggest you check this band out if you haven’t before. Honcho Poncho is a must see. -Celene

Honcho Poncho makes sweet, thoughtful music that transports you into the headspace of driving in a car on a hot summer day with all of your favorite people. Their music is equal parts thoughtful and innovative, and each of their personalities behind the music shine through individually. Their latest release, Late Night, is a treat. I suggest checking out “Two Wheel Driver.” -Julia O.

Falon Sierra

Falon Sierra is an up-and-coming solo act that was a finalist at this year’s Sound Off! competition. She’s got a smooth and charming voice, and based off of some of the music she’s already put out (including “Mr. Prez,”), she’s also unafraid of speaking her own truth. I’m excited to hear all that she has to say at this year’s festival, and in a voice that’s as addictive as candy. -Craig

Moon Human

Once Rainy Day Splish Splosh Band, now Moon Human. This dynamic trio brings heaps of post-punk energy to any show. Moon Human is sure to play some classic jams, but will also hopefully be playing songs off of their brand new album, due out soon. Members Grant, Carter, and Jon are sure to transport you from the KXSU Stage to the cosmos in this trippy set. Also, I’m their band manager, and I’ll manage the hell out of ‘em to make sure they put on a good show to kick off Quadstock. –Julia O.

Ricky Reyes

Not only do I admire Ricky for his incredible music taste and his expansive knowledge on all things music-related (we’ve bonded over music, especially Fleet Foxes, am I right, Ricky?), but he’s also a pretty dang amazing musician. He’s absolutely majestic on the guitar. Having seen him perform for the first time at one of KXSU’s open mic nights, and I was absolutely in stunned and in awe of his intricate his guitar melodies that went along perfectly with his vocals. Can’t wait to see him on the big stage! -April

SEAC STAGE

Morado

This band is homegrown to Seattle University, and they’ve got a real charm to ‘em. It’s no surprise that they won this year’s Battle of the Bands competition to clinch this spot on the lineup, and I’m extremely anxious to see what they do with their set! (Note to Morado: if you don’t collaborate with Sean Kingston, you didn’t do it right.) -Craig

This band is composed of four independently talented musicians, and when they come together as the entity of Morado, they are explosive. I’m personally stoked to see them on this lineup, and I have no doubt they’ll be the perfect way to get the crowd movin’ and groovin’ at the main stage. -April

Bibi Bourelly

I heard she wrote “Bitch Better Have My Money.” I’m here for this. -Craig

Sam Lachow

Here’s another local Seattle rapper—the next Macklemore, perhaps? I dig his “80 Bars” music videos, which showcase Washington State. He seems to really love Seattle, and I hope y’all love his chill self back. -Maria

Sean Kingston

“Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh / Why’d you have to go-oh / Away from home / Me love?” That is literally all I have to say about this. I’m so excited. Everyone at Quadstock better wear protective gear because I’m gonna throw elbows until I get to the front. -Craig

As you can see from the photo below, I’ve been a long-time fan of Mr. Kingston. In fact, when I was in SEAC my sophomore year, the staff made our dream lineups and he was at the top of mine. Dreams do come true, I guess. You best believe I’ll be that shawty fire burning on the dance floor. -April

I saw Sean Kingston on an episode of The Suite Life on Deck, and while he sang a little something called “Dumb Love,” it was not dumb at all. He has a fun sound, and I can’t wait to see him live. -Mark

Honestly, what a true throwback. Who could ever forget how big of hits “Beautiful Girls” and “Fire Burning” were? I think this headliner is a gem to remind us all what a year 2008 was in terms of music. I can’t wait to jam to some old hits. -Celene

Legendary hit “Eenie Meenie” by Justin Bieber feat. Sean Kingston was one of my top played Spotify songs of 2016. Yes, 2016. No, this is not a joke. I am ready. -Julia S.

I would just like to let SEAC know in advance that I more than 100% willing to volunteer to take on the daunting task of filling in for Nicki Minaj and perform her verse alongside Mr. Kingston for “Letting Go.” -Maria
