Being back in the city I love is bringing me tremendous joy. There is a cool breeze, green trees, and a bunch of cool artists for me to see! I’ve had a really busy summer which means I have not been to a concert since before finals last spring. Needless to say I am itching to feel some music electrify my body again. I am excited to kick off this year with indie rock band Houndmouth.

Houndmouth is a band that hails from New Albany, Indiana. The band consists of three musicians: Matt Myers (guitar and vocals), Zak Appleby (bass and vocals), and Shane Cody (drums and also vocals). They started playing together in 2011 and were signed with legendary indie label Rough Trade Records in 2012.

You may recognize their song “Sedona” which was a #1 adult alternative radio single (and my personal favorite). In August of 2018, the group released their third full length album, Golden Age. Although there is no doubt that their perceived public identity is founded on roots and Americana, Houndmouth nevertheless created a concept album around a nostalgic future – and the sound will certainly reflect its message. Knee-jerk reactions may define Golden Age as a metamorphosis, but it is in actuality a catharsis. Uploading one’s thoughts on life is easier than ever, but Houndmouth took a painstakingly unique route to creatively craft their purge of emotions. This album tackles the issues of identity and self in the digital epoch of romance.

Fans of Houndmouth also like Shovels & Rope, Jim James, Dawes, and The Avett Brothers. If you enjoy the music of any of those bands, you might enjoy Houndmouth!

Houndmouth’s music is insightful and creative; a sound you don’t want to miss. They are coming to The Showbox on Monday, September 17th. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show begins at 8:00 PM with the band Family of the Year. Tickets can be found HERE! This show is open to people of all ages.
