Just a mile north of the Seattle University campus is arguably one of the best bagel shops in Capitol Hill, Rubinstein Bagels. On the north end of Cap Hill are a few blocks of local coffee shops and little nick-nack stores, a great way to spend a weekend morning!

Summer Seattle Bagels

As I spent the summer in Seattle, I had the opportunity to experiment and try some places I hadn’t yet been to within the last school year. Rubinstein Bagels had been eyeing me on my Yelp for quite some time before I decided to finally check it out. For anyone else who loves Yelp and keeps a list of places they want to try, Rubinstein Bagels should be moved to the top of your list.

Endless Bagel Flavors

You can go to Rubinstein’s and try a new bagel combination for weeks on end. There are 13 different bagel flavors and eight schmears to try, not to mention the premade bagel menu that has over 14 different flavors that are a must try.

I have a bad habit of finding something I like on the menu and just sticking with it until the end of time. My go-to bagel is “Avocado Toast” on Salted Rosemary. My bagel has a thick layer of goat cheese and smooth avocado. The salted bagel offers a rich and savory pop of taste alongside the tangy goat cheese.

The bagel on top seen in the photo above is the “Open Faced Lox” with Salmon Roe on a classic everything bagel. Although I do not eat meat, I can surely say this bagel looks delicious. I think the premade bagel menu is great, they really know how to combine flavors and textures in a divine way. For example, the capers on the Lox bagel and the pickled onions on the Avocado bagel make the bagel go from good to great.

Locally Owned and Supported

Not only is Rubinsteins locally owned and funded, but they also carry Olympia Coffee, a local coffee brand based out of Seattle. There are two bagel shops within Seattle, a South Lake Union and Capitol Hill location, both of which have great indoor and outdoor seating areas. I would definitely recommend checking out their website, which has a lot of information on how Rubinsteins came to be and where they are headed next.

A Sunday Morning Stroll

If you’re looking to try a cafe off campus and explore some more of Capitol Hill, Rubinstein Bagels is the place to go!
