Smooky MarGielaa’s coming to Neumos Wednesday! The 15-year-old rap phenomenon blew up in 2017, making his energetic sound known on A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes Volume 2: Too Cozy. Hailing from the Bronx by way of West Africa, he has taken the rap game by storm—but this isn’t his first experience with music. His father, Malian artist Abdoulaye Diabaté, regularly brought him on tour, where he performed covers of Michael Jackson on the djembe and balafon.

MarGielaa was 11 when he got his first iPhone, and that’s when he started to make his own music. He would download beats on YouTube and rap over them, sharing them on SoundCloud and Twitter. Everything changed when he met his tutor, who managed to get him some studio time. Three short years later, he met A$AP Rocky at a club, and the rest is history. Since then, he’s started his own label, G.R.A.P.E.—Get Rich And Pray Everyday.

In a rap environment riddled with so many young stars, it’s easy to get lost. But MarGielaa’s sound is unique—his background in West African music has acted as a foundation for his singing and rapping. His voice is high but smooth, and his bars are humble with an undertone of braggadocio. His song “NOT RIGHT” (prod. Murda), a response to Meek Mill’s conviction, has 2.3 million streams on SoundCloud. Watch out for this rising star, as he looks to release his first mixtape, MMM.

Opening for Smooky MarGielaa is Lil Mosey, Comethazine, and Young Jasper. Doors for this all ages event at Neumos open at 8:00 PM. More information and tickets can be found here.
