Winter quarter is always the hardest for me to get through so this week’s playlist is made up of songs that make me feel like I’m home. From classics like “Stuck on You” by Ekolu to some newer music like “Saving My Love” by Paula Fuga and J Boog, this playlist brings me back to Hawaiʻi even when I’m an entire ocean away.
There’s no real rhyme or reason to the order of these songs, but if you’re new to this genre, I’ve tried to ease you into the music with “Every Little Thing” by J Boog (who also sings “Let’s Do It Again” which I was unaware until recently was a TikTok sound because of Pia Mia’s version featuring Chris Brown and Tyga.) About halfway through, I added a classic, “Ms. Beautiful” by Rebel Souljahz, who were born and raised in Waipahu, Hawaiʻi, a few towns over from my hometown!
Ending the playlist is a song from Paula Fuga’s most recent album, Rain On Sunday, which is an album I recommend listening to! If you like Jack Johnson, then you’ll like “If Ever” featuring the man himself and Ben Harper.
There is no way I can listen to these songs without a smile on my face. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
